Death of Democracy, © 2005
DoD was my 2004 election season therapy. It is a deconstructed children's board book which has been collaged and rebound in an accordian with a wrap-around cover. It explores issues of civic responsibility (or the lack thereof) in 6 "sound-bite" pages on the front sides. The back sides are collaged pictures of flags with quotes from various famous Americans about freedom, equality and the right to vote on the back sides.
This book was inspired by a quote by Robert Maynard Hutchins, "The death of Democracy is not likely to be an assassination from ambush. It will be a slow extinction from apathy, indifference, and undernourishment.", 1954.
